Internship Experience at LinkedIn

Where and How?

I applied for an off-campus opportunity at LinkedIn through the LinkedIn platform in September 2024. About two weeks later, I received the Online Assessment (OA) link. The test was 90 minutes long and consisted of 3 coding questions.

About 10 days after completing the assessment, I received an email with a shortlist for the first technical interview, scheduled for the following week. This round began with introductions and a discussion about my projects, followed by two coding/algorithm problems.

The interviewer concluded by allowing me to ask questions, which gave me a chance to learn more about the team and work culture.

I was then invited to the Host Manager round (final round), scheduled for the very next day. This round included a mix of project-based discussions and behavioral questions. Finally, I received the selection email the following week, officially confirming my internship at LinkedIn.

What I worked on

During my internship, I had the opportunity to work with the Unified Schema Registry (USR) team at LinkedIn. The team’s primary responsibility was to validate and register different kinds of schemas, ensuring smooth data management across the platform.

My key responsibilities included:

• Gaining a deep understanding of my project and its scope.
• Researching and reading about relevant technologies.
• Brainstorming ideas and proposing solutions/designs.
• Writing, debugging, and testing code.
• Coordinating with other teams to resolve issues.
• Supporting deployments and post-deployment checks.

Beyond the technical aspects, the internship provided me with valuable lessons in collaboration, ownership, and communication.

It was a glimpse into how engineering teams at scale design, build, and maintain critical systems that impact over a billion users.

What was it like?

My internship at LinkedIn was an unforgettable experience filled with collaboration and fun. Besides solving real-world engineering problems with the USR team, I got to enjoy a vibrant culture. Every week, there was something new - there were intern events like perfume making, bowling, arcade games, movie evenings, and more! On top of these, we had exciting team outings that brought everyone closer and created memories outside of work.

These were moments that made the internship truly special. They taught me that an inspiring workplace is not just about the work you do, but also about the people you meet and the memories you make along the way.
