Why? O, Poseidon, Why?

Aditya Patil

How does the sea change from serene to terrifying in moments? Calm waves, playful marine life, and a tranquil sky can quickly turn into chaos under Poseidon’s wrath. The poet questions this duality, exploring the ocean’s beauty and danger, and the mystery behind its ever-shifting nature.

Why? O, Poseidon, why?
Why do you have to be so mean?
Gentle, frothy waves and a clear blue sky,
Isn't this for you, a picturesque scene?

Diving into the soothing icy waters,
A visit to Nemo’s anemone,
The gentle chaos as a fish shoal scatters,
Isn't this how a sea must be shown?

Why then? O, Poseidon, why?
Why do you have to be, so evil, a god?
Raging tall waves and a dark black sky,
Won’t this make Atlantis a chaotic abode?

Dark, creepy shadows in the mighty sea,
Lightning and thunder, a dramatic ace,
A monster, Kraken or Great White, may it be,
Won't this make the sea a treacherous place?

Thalassophilic or thalassophobic thoughts though,
The sea is a pretty curious place to be.
All these daunting questions, let me know.
The great Poseidon, why, they call thee!
